Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Synopsis: Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart. (Goodreads.com )

My review: AAAAAAHHHH!!!! Okay so I’ve been in a reading slump for a long time and I just haven’t been able to read anything that interested me so finally I decided to read Shadow and Bone and I’m so glad that I did because I absolutely loved it!! I’ve heard people talk about it and I just had to see if it was as great as everyone says that it is and I was not let down.

This is the first book in the trilogy and it starts off right away. You don’t have to wait for all the boring introductions with all of the details about everything. You are able to feel a connection to the characters right away and you understand the way the feel. This book is flows beautifully so that you are able to read it without having to stop and go back to try to understand what you just read.

Once you start reading Shadow and Bone you won’t be able to stop. It is one exhilarating chapter to the next. There are so many plot twists that you won’t see coming. Your eyes will be glued to the pages watching the Shadow and Bone world come to life. This fantasy novel will make you want to hop right into the pages to travel right along with Alina and uncover the secrets that she finds right along with her.

The love story that is strung through this novel will warm your heart and maybe break it a little in the process. But, nevertheless, you should make Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo your next book on your to be read list. I am currently reading the second one and I will post a review about Siege and Storm soon!
